8:00AM-10:00AM Iowa Law and Infectious Control with Susan Charles

Sue Charles is a licensed Cosmetologist in Iowa. She has been doing platform continuing education since 1981. Her main focus of educating to other licensees on Iowa law, administrative rules and infection control for the Cosmetology and Barber boards began in 2012, and is what she continues to do today.

Upon graduating from Pitze’s Waterloo School of Beauty in 1972, Sue furthered her professional career by joining, in 1980, the Cosmetologists and Barbers of Iowa Inc. (CBI). This organization was formerly known as the National Hairdressers and Cosmetology Association of Iowa. A try-out and successfully testing in 1981 for the Iowa Cosmetology Educators (ICE) was the next step on her path to becoming a platform educator.

Sue has held various positions within these two organizations. She is currently serving as the Vice President of CBI. Prior to this she was successfully nominated for and held the positions of Vice Chair, Education Director, Nail Section Director and Competition Chair of ICE. In 2013, Sue won the ICE award for Outstanding Educator of the Year and is once again nominated for this award, which will be announced at CBI’s annual member banquet in February of 2019.

Sue resides in Waterloo, Iowa and continues to work full time ‘behind the chair’ as a cosmetologist.

10:00AM-12:00PM Makeup Techniques (Airbrush) with Courtney Cue

Courtney Cue grew up in small town Iowa, always playing with hair and makeup and even giving her barbies an occasional haircut. After graduating from Independence High School in 2013, she attended barber school at College of Hair Design in Waterloo. Once she graduated in October 2014, Courtney jumped right into the salon and began renting a chair at Hair Gallery in Waterloo. Since starting, Courtney has gone out of her way to make her and her services standout. She specializes in coloring, blonding, and airbrush makeup- specifically bridal services. She offers  other services as well, such as men’s cuts, straight razor shaves and sugaring. In 2017, Courtney took her first step to becoming an educator and became a Redken Specialist. Since then, she has traveled Northern Iowa educating other professionals. Courtney hopes her passion for hair, makeup, and education can take her all over the world.
