CBI, ICE and the Team has been

such an honor.  Thank you ICE for having Melanie, Holly and

                                      myself as the Design Team.

Melanie Brons #16 – Being a part of the design team is always hard work, but

ultimately is a very fun and rewarding experience.  The most

challenging part of this design team was coming up with the theme of

where our ideas were coming from/going to.  Once we established the

name of “Trifecta Collection”, things came together very nicely.  We

would bounce ideas back and forth and come up with solutions and

suggestions.  The rewards of being on the design team come when

other stylists share with me how they have used the look we created

on a client, as well as the fun times and memories made with Jean and

Holly.  Thanks to both of you for all your help and hard work for the

                                  betterment of

CBI as well as the industry.

At its meeting April 24th, the Iowa Board of Barbering affirmed they will not accept on-line continuing education credits through C.O.E. Continuing Education or any other on-line provider.  To the board's knowledge, on-line continuing education has never been accepted for credit.  Board members believe that face-to-face instruction in a class room setting is an invaluable part of the licensee's education and continuing education process.

The board will be reviewing their administrative rules regarding continuing education.  However, until the board adopts new requirements for continuing education, on-line credits will not be accepted.

This information was provided to CBI by Susan Reynolds, Board Executive, Iowa Board of Barbering, Bureau of Professional Licensure. Please help distribute this information to anyone it may apply. Attached is the official letter form Ms. Reynolds.                                      C.O.E CONTINUING EDUCATION WITH SIGNATURE.doc

Kimberly Setzer has been active in numerous areas of cosmetology for over 26 years.  Her experiences range from freelance makeup artistry to salon ownership to residing on the Iowa Board of Cosmetology.  In addition to her creative work in cosmetology, Kimberly has also made an impact on her community by contributing her time as the President of the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce’s Ambassador organization and held a position with Kossuth County Economic Development as a Communications Board Member.

Her passion for creative cosmetology came to her early on.  She earned her cosmetology degree in 1986 from IBA City College of Cosmetology and earned first place in the Kurl Kraze competition within her school’s competition in the Nails/Makeup Category.  Kimberly’s professional career in makeup artistry began in 1998 when she joined the Technical Artist Group at Sebastian International in California. Kimberly also was an educator for Mirabella Cosmetics for several years.  Kimberly found her talent in makeup artistry lent well into becoming an exceptional stylist of both hair and nails.  She founded her first business, Nails by Kim, while simultaneously renting booth space at Styles Salon.  Here she would build a substantial clientele while learning more about business operations of a salon.

Allure Salon opened for business in 2004, with Kimberly’s array of talents now including hair styling and coloring alongside nails and makeup artistry.  Her devotion to education and training led her to become appointed to the Iowa Board of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences in 2006 where she is currently Chairman of the Board .  Kimberly also has been an active part of Cosmetolotist and Barbers of Iowa and holds a Director postion on the board. This commitment to education did not deter her business or drive to excel, as Allure Salon was 1st runner up in Nail Magazine’s “Salon of the Year” in 2006.

Kimberly continues to exceed her client’s expectations by continuously learning new techniques in both hair and makeup artistry.  As a member of the Iowa Cosmetologists Educators organization, Kimberly also provides educational opportunities to other makeup artists through educational events, thru private or group instruction.

In Kimberly's free time she likes to decorate, landscape and flower gardens.  Kimberly resides in Algona Iowa.

Jae Ella Godden..... I love to be where creativity flows and my surroundings are exciting.  I get inspiration from other beauty professionals and love anything to do with hair, make-up and the beauty industry.

I was born and raised in Spencer Iowa.  Ten years after graduating high school I decided to go to cosmetology school.

I graduated from Faust Institute of Cosmetology in 1993.  I have been employed at Design Masters Salon and Day Spa since graduation.  I have been a member of the National Cosmetology Association (NCA) since 1993, a member of Cosmetologists and Barbers of Iowa (CBI) since 2006, and have held all positions on CBI The Great Affiliate 16 Board.  I am currently a director on the state board of CBI and a member of

IowaCosmetology Educators (ICE) since 2008.  I have been teaching and assisting with teaching for ten plus years.  I love learning and sharing knowledge with others that have the same passion for beauty.  I was also a stylist on the ICE Design Team for 2011 collection “American Made”.

I was always very shy and just observed others from a distance. Through my life I overcame most of my shyness. I couldn’t have done this without the help of Joyce Smith the former owner of Design Masters Salon and Day Spa.  Joyce had confidence in me, she knew I could do it, but did I?  Together we would go to community colleges and teach.  She was the voice and I assisted and finished styling, coloring, or being a comedian if needed.   I’ve become the person Joyce knew I could be---let the sky be my limit.  I want to pass this onto other stylists that I come in contact with.

I have to give thanks to NCA,

CBI& ICE and all the friends that I have made being a member of such great professional organizations.

    Thank you,

    Sincerely yours,

    Jae Ella (Jae) Godden

Weather you are a long time nail wearer or an all natural girl, Shellac has something for you. As a Cosmetolgist that does nails, I'm always looking for new and advanced products and Shellac is it!!!

Shellac is a gell polish that needs no pre-filling of the natural nail to adhere. Therefore it is a great product for those clients who don't want to wear artificial nails but like the wear their polish has with nails. It is also great for those who want to give up their nails and go natural because the product adds extra strength to the nails.

This product also has endless possibilities for nail art. Weather you are doing a two tone color combo, engravingm or adding glitter this is a great product.

The product comes in many colors and colors can also be layered to create more color choices. The product is easy to use, just apply like nail enamel and cure under a UV light as directed. Even if you don't do nails you can master this! So give it a try!

    Thanks Michi Rees

    Secretary/Treasurer Becky Brockmann

Hi - I'm Becky Brockmann your CBI current Secretary/Treasurer and will tell you a little about me for this site.

I was born in Spencer, Iowa and lived my childhood at Everly where I graduated.
After completing training from Stewart's Beauty School in Sioux City where I won the annual styling competition, I took THE TEST. Out of 1000 who took it, I was one of the lucky 300 that passed and went on to Paullina, Iowa to take over a salon for a woman who joined her husband in the National Guard. Across the street was a plumber who one day came over to check my pipes and marriage and a home at Hartley followed along with three beautiful daughters.

I opened Shear Delight Beauty Shop in my home at Hartley and am still working there as time permits. I have held many offices in NCA of Iowa including State President, CBI currently Sec/Treas and all offices numerously for my local affiliate. I served on the Iowa Board of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences for 7 years, 6 as Vice Chairman and then elected Chairman. Because of these attainments, my world has become very big and I don't have any limitations as a professional cosmetologist.

Traveling all states has afforded me many acquaintances that will be cherished forever. I am currently Region 2 Director on the National Board for the National-Interstate Council of States Boards of Cosmetology which is a very interesting position, and also as National Legislative Chairman, I am in contact with all states reporting changes and updates. I must tell you IOWA is in the forefront on all issues and continues to add vital information at the National conferences.

Living in the country affords me many joys including animals and gardens. It creates a wonderful past time that is helpful when working out problems and frustrations that may occur, Also being very close to my daughters and my 93 year old Mother keeps me humble and thankful for my wonderful Christian roots.

    Thanks Becky
